Champions By Design: 7 Proven Strategies to Overcome Adversity, Build High-Performing Teams, and Achieve Lasting Results” by Bill Schuffenhauer OLY, CPC and D. Paul Miller
This Leadership Training book, co-authored by Bill and Paul, is applicable to any leader seeking to build resilience in order to produce growth and learning that leads to success!
Bill is a 3-time Olympian, Bobsled Silver Medalist, and experienced leader in the Business/Tech Industry who grew up on the streets of Salt Lake City as a homeless child. His earliest memories involved drugs, violence, and run-ins with the police. Bill changed his stars starting in middle school and high school thanks to his TEACHERS and COACHES that believed in him. His story of overcoming adversity and reaching the heights of achievement in sports and business is both inspiring and thought provoking as it is intertwined with 20 year educator and business leader, D. Paul Miller’s approach to servant leadership.

I own an athletic clothing company, organize public speaking events and also I’m an endurance athlete. I’m extremely grateful for my relationship with Bill and his influence. He talked in one of our events and was amazing. He has coached me to overcome opposition and to have perspective in my life. He has so much value to add to entrepreneurs, athletes or people in business. It’s good to know that he has my back, and I can count on him for help and advice in business and life. Being on a team with Bill has been a real pleasure. He is insightful, wise, perceptive, creative, intelligent and motivational, and his diverse experience and expertise have been a huge advantage to our initiatives. One of the notable characteristics I admire most is his mastery of creating and building mutually-beneficial, win-win-win, relationships; listening, hearing and creating solutions. Few people are exceptionally good at it, but Bill is one of them who is. Our team is one-step ahead with Bill on it. Being on a team with Bill has been a real pleasure. Bill Schuffenhauer has been an inspirational role model to me since I met him and watched him win the Olympic Silver Medal. As an elite athlete Bill obviously has an intense work ethic and self discipline to accomplish a big goal. But Bill stands out among his fellow competitors because of his integrity, tenacity, commitment to Service Before Self to make everybody around him better, and in his devotion to excellence in all that he does. I highly recommend Bill at every level as a class human being, and for any job as a natural leader whom you can always count on in every situation. I love and honor my friend Billy!!! I’ve worked closely with Bill for several years on many projects, including the launch of his company Silver Retreat. One of Bill’s biggest strengths is that he truly cares about his clients and customers. I’ve personally seen Bill go above and beyond on many different occasions to see that client expectations are exceeded. Bill’s life story is both inspiring and amazing, and it’s my pleasure to recommend Bill as a motivational speaker and business man to anyone considering his services.

I had the absolute pleasure of working with Bill in 2009 on the CMT television show, “All Jacked Up,” hosted by C. Thomas Howell. Bill was our on-camera expert & proved to invaluable behind the scenes as well. Smart, well-spoken, prepared, Bill Schuffenhauer is the total package & an asset to anything he’s involved in.

I have known Bill since I became involved with the sports of Bobsled & Skeleton. I saw his work ethic and determination to make 3 Olympic teams, especially as a push athlete when younger athletes come up through the development programs. He set goals to again make the team in 2010 and was an motivational/inspirational speaker at the USBSF dinner just prior to the team leaving for Vancouver. I was so moved by his story and the way he presented himself to the public. You need to know about those athletes who don’t get all the funding and yet continue to work toward that goal of making an Olympic team. We met Bill when he was preparing for the Winter Olympics in Vancouver 2010. His story was powerful coming up from living on the street to Olympic team. Bill was helpful in attracting new sponsors for the Healthy Referral as we were helping to find new money to pay for his training and expense.
